WASHINGTON – St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, long known for its social activism and diversity, will install its sixth rector on April 25, 2009, at 10:00 a.m., at a special service led by The Right Reverend John Bryson Chane, head of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington.
Before a congregation of well wishers, the Reverend Charles Amuzie, Ph.D. will commit himself to lead St. Timothy’s, a bustling parish engaged locally and globally in addressing vexing social issues, such as poverty, homelessness and health inequities.
A native of Nigeria, Amuzie became rector of St. Timothy’s in January, following a lengthy search. Amuzie was born in Lagos and came to the United States in 1986. He and his wife Nena have four children.
St. Timothy’s is a multicultural parish whose members hail from across the African Diaspora, including the Caribbean, Guyana, Ghana, Puerto Rico and throughout the United States.
