This Week at St. Timothy’s
For the Week Beginning June 21st, 2009
Father's Day
I wish that every father that I know could have attended service at St. Timothy's on Sunday. The sermon began with "Honor thy mother and thy father." The scripture does not say..."when they deserve it or when they earn it." If you are a father and you know that you have done all that you can do, hold your head high. If you are a father, and you have sometimes fallen short, God forgives you. Hold your head high!
Reverend Amuzie said he researched the “perfect” father and could not find one. I mumbled Heathcliff Huxtable to Audréana as we sat listening, but we all know that while we could probably relate to some of the story lines on the Cosby Show, that was not a “reality” show.
Reverend Amuzie covered fathers in the Old and New Testament and found none that were perfect. Even the first father, Adam, was imperfect and not a father we would wish to emulate. He covered Abraham, David and many others and all had the same result - imperfect. There was always something or some things to point out that deemed them imperfect. However, they are still fathers.
To the single moms saying "Happy Fathers Day to Me." I can only imagine how you feel, but it’s not your day. At some point, you felt that person was worthy of being a father. For those whose father may not have always been present in their lives, forgive. That is what the scripture tells us to do. Do not let ill feelings hold you back from receiving your blessings from God. Honor thy father still.
I hope that the family of St. Timothy’s enjoyed a wonderful Father’s Day. We had a good start beginning with the breakfast provided by ECW (thanks ladies). May we continue to love and cherish one another as God would only have us to do.

This Week’s MEDITATION
REFLECTION ON PRAYER
I asked God for strength, that I might achieve;
I was made weak, that I might learn humbly to obey.
I asked for health that, I might do great things;
I was given sickness, that I might do better things.
I asked for riches, that I might be happy;
I was given poverty, that I might be wise.
I asked for power to have the praise of others;
I was given weakness, to feel the need for God.
I asked for all things, that I might enjoy life;
I was given life, that I might enjoy all things.
I receive nothing I asked for, but everything I hoped for.
Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayer was answered;
I am, among all people, most richly blessed.
Amen
