This Week at St. Timothy’s
For the Week Beginning October 4, 2009
Homecoming 2009: Revive Us Again
Snippets of the sermon delivered by The Very Reverend Robert C. Wright
“To be revived, St. Timothy’s must be an Upward, Inward and Outward thinking church. Any one of these things without the other is just a click.”
Upward = Worship
We must acknowledge our savior. “God, you are of ultimate worth in my life. You are first and foremost.” We must learn to “wait on the Lord”. Pray and consult with him before we take action. “People walk through these doors from their own personal hells. That’s why we can’t afford to play church. If there is a place like St. Timothy’s that calls us to worship and that reminds us who we are and whose we are, then we have revival.” We must pray, trust and wait on the Lord.
Inward = Hope
“This present situation is just an opportunity for us to pray. Do you pray every Saturday night that your worship will be dynamic on Sunday? Do you pray every Saturday night that this man’s [Reverend Amuzie’s] message might be meaningful and effective in this place? So many people walk in the doors of this congregation as consumers rather than participants. Good Friday was only a day. Easter is a lifetime. Are we going to be an Easter church? People are looking for something real…and the church has it. It’s called hope.”
Outward = Mission
“Churches die when they only look inward.” If St. Timothy’s disappeared from the neighborhood tomorrow, would anyone care? What is your passion at St. Timothy’s? You don’t have to save the world. Find out what God is calling you to do and do it better than anybody else. People just want to know that God is real. God can do infinitely more than we could ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20). The ministry starts outside.”
Reverend Wright concluded his sermon with “Congratulations. God bless you. Get to work!”
I hope that we are all praying for a dynamic worship service on Sunday.
Peace & blessings,
Josie, Richlyn & Stacy
