Confirmation/Reaffirmation/Reception

CONFIRMATION/REAFFIRMATION/RECEPTION

In the course of their Christian development, those baptized at an early age are expected, when they are ready and have been duly prepared, to make a public affirmation of their faith and to receive the laying on of hands by the bishop. Those baptized as adults are also expected to do the same. The laying on of hands by the bishop is symbolic of the spiritual strengthening to resist evil and lead a Christian life empowered by the Holy Spirit. Classes begin, in the winter months (normally December). Upon completion of classes, candidates for confirmation, reaffirmation and reception into the Episcopal church participate in an annual confirmation service held at the National Cathedral normally in the late Spring.

For more information on confirmation, affirmation and reception into the Episcopal church, please contact the church office on (202) 582-7740.
